'Baker Street' singer Gerry Rafferty dead at 63
Jan. 4, 2011, 5:47 PM EST
LONDON (AP) Gerry Rafferty's agent says the Scottish singer behind hit songs "Baker Street" and "Stuck in the Middle With You" has died. He was 63.
Paul Charles confirmed Tuesday that his client, whose 1978 hit record "Baker Street" reached No. 3 in the U.K. and No. 2 in the U.S. music charts, had passed away following a long illness.
Rafferty wrote hit single "Stuck in the Middle With You" in 1972, while performing as part of the Scottish folk-rock band Stealers Wheel. The ode or mocking tribute to Bob Dylan's raspy voice grew new wings in film maker Quentin Tarantino's movie "Reservoir Dogs," and has sold more than a million copies worldwide.
He made headlines in recent years for his public struggles with alcoholism and had reportedly suffered liver failure.

BD, it looks like he just sort of faded out.

I am not sure why it's so faded, it was a simple cut and paste.
I have Rafferty's Greatest Hits album, he was really under rated. I wish that I had the chance to see him in concert.

Two Hollywood deaths to report from yesterday.
David Nelson, Ricky Nelsons older brother and the eldest child of Ozzie and Harriet Nelson, died at age 74. Wowjust to think that Ricky Nelson would have turned 71 this spring is frightening.
David was the actor of the two Nelson brothers, not the rock star. He appeared in the family TV showwhich may have been the first reality show with celebrities. But he also acted in several prime time shows of the era including Peyton Place. Its sad to think all the original Nelsons are gone now. Rest in peace.
Margaret Whiting--I just mentioned her a couple of weeks ago. Her father, a famous composer, co-wrote On the Good Ship Lollipop. Margaret became a pop singer superstar of the 1950s. She was the Celine Dion, lets say, of her generation. Margaret Whiting worked in to the 1980s, and was married for a long time to porn star Jack Wrangler. (Yes,. it was icky.) She was 86, and beloved by her fans.

Sargent Shriver... First director of JFK's "Peace Corps."
By Josephine Ripley, Staff Correspondent of The Christian Science Monitor / January 18, 2011
Washington
R. Sargent Shriver Jr., Director of the Peace Corps, attributes its success, in large part, to the fact that it is what he calls "a nuts and bolts operation."
This March 20, 1964 file photo shows R. Sargent Shriver speaking during an interview in Washington. Shriver, the exuberant public servant and Kennedy in-law whose singular career included directing the Peace Corps, fighting the "War on Poverty" and, less successfully, running for office, died Tuesday.
That is, a foreign aid program that operates "at a common level in human experience - among the people themselves."
The Peace Corps, now two years old, has attained a degree of success surprising to many of its critics and even some of its supporters.
Its director frankly admits he anticipated more problems than have arisen. He is proud of the attainments of the corps and the manner in which members have conducted themselves abroad.
Clean Slate Retained
No member of the Peace Corps has ever been brought into court for any reason anywhere in the world, Mr. Shriver told this correspondent in an interview."And no country has ever asked us to remove a volunteer for incompetence or improper conduct or for any other reason," he added.
