Man hit, killed by train was reportedly drunk
GILBERT, Ariz. -- The man killed by a Union Pacific train in Gilbert on Sunday was reportedly extremely intoxicated and fascinated by trains, according to Gilbert Police.

Jibaribed Dezmathix, 31, died early Sunday morning when a train struck him as he was walking.

The Mesa man previously was known as Jared Michael Baird.

The incident occurred about 5 a.m. on the train tracks near Rittenhouse Road between Higley and Recker roads while a Union Pacific train was traveling west, Gilbert Police Detective Joe Gilligan said.

Union Pacific officials notified police of the incident.

An investigation revealed Dezmathix attended a party in a neighborhood south of the railroad tracks on Saturday evening.

Witnesses from the party told police he was making statements about wanting to go see trains.

Dezmathix was fascinated by trains, police were told, and he knew there were tracks near the party.

Gilbert Police believe he was extremely intoxicated when he left for the tracks early Sunday morning.

There is no indication of foul play or suicide.
