Railpower Technologies Corp. announced Monday that it had received an order from Union Pacific for two RP2OCD Eco-Motive locomotives. These EPA Tier II certified, six-axle, 2,000-hp locomotives will join four Railpower genset units already in service on UP. Railpower says the RP2OCD locomotives are ideal for hump service applications, which require high tractive effort levels at low speeds for the classification of railcars.

Of course, I am just a yewt, so I never seen these things around, but they have a rebuilt one over in the museum in Duluth. It pulls the "Scenic Railroad" thing up and down the coast of Lake Superior.
They keep those things here in Portland for several weeks before sending them to CA for tax reasons. In the meantime we have old shit that was built when Uke was a kid.

UP does have a couple of steamers on it's roster, so that's not much of an exaggeration...

We had both a NRE green machine and a Railpower genset for a week trial period. The NRE one had no brakes and the Railpower pulled like a sum a bitch until a bozo professional driver smacked into it. We are looking at buying 4 green machines for now, until government grants come in. I guess the plan is to sell off the sw900's we have, and buy gensets.
