LINTCO decided that the magic temperature to reduce speed at was -22. Not sure why -21 is ok for normal speed, but since it's their rules, it's my overtime.

During this latest spell of unpleasantness, LINTCO dropped every trains speed to 40. Then they said that between 1800 and 0800, every train was to go no faster than 40, it was on our TGBO's. Tonight that GBO was voided. The -22 thing though is in a Bulletin Notice and is to be added to our TTSI. (TT Cy?)

Our magic temp is -20 or 80 degrees. Must reduce speed to 30 mph...

I can remember LAMCO dropping train speeds in these parts for brutally cold weather but it hasn't happened this winter, even with the -20 temp here on Wednesday. We used to get heat orders in the summer, too, but other than on one big curve, we never seem to get those anymore, either. Must be LAMCO's superior track program. Hmmm.

Nope, not in TTSI's either, BD.

On the BNSF Scenic and Bellingham Subs in the summertime
heat (think it's 85 or 90 degrees) they have restrictions account
they're leary of sun kinks. Not mentioned is it's a great time
to breakout the BBQ Chicken, potato salad and the watermelon.

Remember one old engineer telling me that when they first put in some ribbon rail, they didn't exactly allow for enough expansion. One hot day on a pretty good curve, it let loose and was clear out into a field.

It's been a boon ta railroads, that ribbon rail. But so was jointed rail.

Jointed rail had built in 'expansion/contraction'
allowances... Ribbon rail? Nope. Weather conditions, unpredictable as such... Well you grunts know. I see the point of reducing speeds at temps below -20, or above 90...

But does anybody really know the rates of expansion/contraction for  given stretch? I think not.

The big Class-I outfits only know what the manufacturers tell 'em. And IF they say it's good ta go... Watch out!

Goddamned fucking drafty assed cold blowin motherfuckin SD75's!!! Those fuckers wouldn't warm up if they were on fire!!! I was just getting over my cold when I got one last night, between -15 and -22. I would have been warmer in the goddamned fridge. Since I was sitting there in my weakend state, shivering, my fucking fever came back.

Good kryst, I am getting old. I NEVER thought I would see the day when I would be grateful to have a GE on the point.
