CLEVELAND, July 2 The National Mediation Board (NMB) is looking to hire a full-time mediator to specialize in railroad disputes for a vacant position at its headquarters in Washington, D.C. There is one vacant position, but the NMB may hire two if they are impressed with the applicants.
The candidate will mediate disputes between railroad carriers and labor organizations over rates of pay, work rules or working conditions, or over interpretations of applicable collective bargaining agreements.
U.S. Citizenship is a requirement, as is at least one year of specialized experience in negotiating or interpreting labor agreements in the railroad industry covering a large number of employees or a number of different crafts or classes, on such matters as wages, hours of work, and working conditions; or in mediating between, or negotiating with, management and employee representatives in the application of labor agreements.
Depending on experience, the rates of pay range from $73,100 to $113,007 per year. The deadline to apply for this position is Wednesday, July 15, 2009.
