Person Fatally Struck By Train Outside Philly

GLENOLDEN, Pa. (AP)

Authorities say a person was fatally struck by an Amtrak train south of Philadelphia.

Amtrak spokeswoman Tracy Connell said early Saturday that the train traveling from Washington, D.C., to New York hit the victim just before midnight, near Folcroft in Delaware County.

It was not immediately clear why the person had been on the track. The track speed limit in the area is 110 mph.

Connell says 209 people were on the train and none were hurt.  The train remains stopped at the site of the accident. Glenolden police are investigating.

In February, two teenage girls were fatally struck by a high-speed Amtrak train in nearby Norwood. Authorities have said the girls committed suicide. Family and friends have said they were grieving the death of a fellow student and boyfriend of one of the girls.
