Division 231's President has retired. I just got the call from him, seems to be in good spirits. He will still be running our website. I suggested that he run for public office, because he has the time and needs to get a message out just like Bernie Sanders is.

Not sure yet. We will know in 30 days. Yes, it is a good thing he could retire. Seems to be okay with it, I don't think he will be bored, and of course he will stay envolved with the Division. I believe he can organize our retirees to work on legislative stuff..

Too bad he had to leave this way. I always thought that guys who retired because something bad happened rather than retiring because they wanted to go were sad stories. I always have wondered if they thought, "Maybe I shouldn't have stuck around so long".

There was a HAWG in Bellevue who worked well past retirement, who ran a stop signal coming out of Bellevue on his local one day, not long after I retired. (New Haven Connection on the Fostoria main, Pipes). He was about 67, plenty of service, he's the kind of guy I wondered this about, he went right in the next day and retired. Don't know what became of the BOT.

I've known others who also went out the hard way.

Well, when the Division has the retirement party, perhaps us that are celebrating can help change that, meaning showing them that they still have their dignity and grace. Bob will be okay, him running our website, and perhaps motivating the retirees to be legislatively active.

A common thing, *cy*.

Snippy has several stories. Sometimes he knows they do it on purpose. There is no shame when you reach the time and service and get a fuggit attitude. They just go until they get caught and go away.

Most of the time, you end up screwing some innocent.  I know a few stories myself.  I couldn't have done it.

Same here...knew a guy who sold job insurance for years, had his 30 years just wasn't 60 for a year. Had a brand new BOSS who wouldn't buy job insurance with him. BOSS told him he didn't need insurance cause he was gonna do everything right. BOSS found out hard way he had to pull the red lever and stop the train BEFORE they got by the red. pullin the red lever just before they went by the red wasn't good enuff to save his job.

They did have mercy on the BOSS and he was the only one from the Ingram era that I knew who got back early.
