And, *cy*, there is always Columbots.

Eschew the dovetail at your peril.

True, Snippy, true. Columbots is not a pure dovetail and also a living example of how things can turn into unexpected events, which is what Bros. Larry and Paul always told us while selling us the idea.

Burlington Northern was a prime example of the 'dovetailed' seniority thing. Mainly because, in the PNW at least... Remember we had the GN, NP, and SP&S all running over each other's rails, into each other's yards, and interchanging. The SP&S was 'owned' by GN and NP.

Shop guys weren't affected. At first. But when the Auburn, WA shop was closed, its grunts were forced ta Interbay, and dovetailed into the respected crafts. Guys who were GN, or NP had priors. And their rights stood until they retired.

The last 'super-protected' grunt at Interbay was pipefitter from Auburn, an NP shop. Interbay inherited members of every craft, including heavy welder/boilermakers, a lost craft.

As far as the operating side... The last super-protected folks are likely holding the very last locals outa Seattle, Everett, Tacoma, and Vancouver, WA.

Canadian National conductors, brakemen sign off on subsidiary merger

Canadian National trains meet on former Duluth, Winnipeg & Pacific rails at Ash Lake, Minn., in 2006. Under a new agreement, conductors that currently work ex-DW&P rails will be able to serve on CN subsidiaries Wisconsin Central and Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range.

CHICAGO  Canadian National conductors and brakemen working between Chicago and the Canadian border at Ranier, Minn., have ratified a single contract for the whole district. The agreement gives CN flexibility at its Superior, Wis., terminal, where previous agreements limited where conductors and brakemen could work.

CN proposed merging its Wisconsin Central; Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range; and Duluth, Winnipeg & Pacific subsidiaries in June. The Surface Transportation Board approved the deal pending labor acceptance.

Under the new agreement, conductors and brakemen from all three predecessors will be able to work all of CNs main lines radiating from Superior. The deal still awaits ratification by the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers & Trainmen, which represents CNs engineers in the corridor.

What this article doesn't tell you is that it passed 121 to 118 on the WC side with 85 lazy apathetic motherfuckers not voting.  This contract has enough gray in it to paint an aircraft carrier twice.

Meanwhile, LINTCO and the BLET are going to arbitration.

Well, us redheads are on top. Arbitrator ruled, DMIR and DWP will be no more. WC contract but with a raise. DWP and DMIR get prior rights. 3 semi-combined rosters, depending on which property you are on. A good number of hawgs don't fall under the furlough protection and are basically "system engineers." No terminal protection for the WC guys in Superior. This is going to be interesting.

That's nothin' ta sneeze at... You former WC guys bein' on top for now. Hope the chips fall yer way in a final shakeout. CN can't be allowed ta forget that the US courts, and Justice Dept. favored 'em, because they made promises...

Hold their feet ta the fire if they try anything sneaky BD!

Please explain, no terminal protection, BD. Does that mean that there's no protection to prevent them from changing your home terminal? Do you mean that you're on top on your former WC and you're just stating that it's all topped and bottomed, each engineer having prior rights to where he held seniority. What about any unpromoted, future HAWGS, currently working as BOT's? Will they attain seniority as HAWGS ahead of promoted HAWGS currently working on the other portions of the property being topped and bottomed? What constituted "furlough protection", anyway?
