So what would be the AAR reporting marks for this locomotive?

Morrison Knudsen is a well known name in the locomotive

business and in the global-construction business. This

huge company has earned atleast 3 different AAR Reporting

marks and others that are less confusing. So for this

GP7 sitting in Kansas City (might have a Sulzer motor)

what might its reporting marks be in a railway system

computer? MKCO..MKCX..MKIX 4301?

You snapped that very pic in 1984 Krink, yet you too know little concerning more thanthe basics... I can say this, judging from appearances. The cab ain't stock GP-7, or 9. Nope! From the cab back, and the frame...it's stock GP-7. Two radiator fan 'bubbles' at the top of the carbody/hood, fore and aft, and the shutter inlets corresponding to the fans. Between the fans, two short stacks, which can only mean one thing:stock 567-B engine.

Morrison-Knudsen only repowered a few SP units using Sulzers. They didn't work out very well... Turbos, and cooling system probs!

More info (Probably tu much...) about the GP-7 than you'd ever wanna know, or need! But it's here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMD_GP7#Identification

The depth and breadth of the information is impressive, and fairly pricise. I've gotten my hands filthy workin' on BN's Geeps from the 7s, right on up to the last series, the GP-60, at Interbay earlier this year.

The improvements in FOUR-AXLE power between the -7, right up through...braking systems, and horsepower. And a more user friendly locomotive, that you can actually maintain!

The -7 units were about 1500 ponies brand new. The last -60 series (both A, and B units) showed 3800 horses!

First time I tested one out... I damn near shit myself! It came off the former Santa Fe, BN didn't 'buy' the GP version of the 60...

But I digress, sorry. Find more GP-7 stuff all over the internets/www thing... Just Gaggle!

Mite be a wee bit difficult ta answer.

http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=3187696

Do you need the reporting marks for the year 1984 (the year that someone we know snapped the pic)?

Or do you want to know if this locomotive still exists and what reporting mark it has now?

In the end, I think you'll find that the various reporting marks were due to

restructuring/ renaming/ etc, and at what time period you were in would

dictate which reporting mark was used.

I have that whole printout in a 3-ring notebook. It's been very useful to

me over the years. I have stumbled into many mysteries during my travels.

Most of them today are all the "re-built shit". GP-11-3's, SD-21-4's, SDFP-37-2's.

My main interest is to place a pic of anything on the net without using the

word "unknown".

Thanks Calvin for your attention to my dilema. You hit a bunch of different
sites than me trying to figure this out. Damn we got a great group of
"researchers" here. I guess I just have to be content with getting the
picture posted with a "reporting mark" that was acceptable. I bet within
a year that picture will have over 300 hits. And to think that slide sat
in its box for 27 years before I owned a scanner that could turn it
into a "digital image". Happening more all the time...those older folks
getting some of their pictures on-line.

Would have to think that nearly everyone here has a bunch of rail pix
that should see the light of day. I want to see some.

...seems this ol' gal's gotten around North America! Hope she's equipped with some sorta heater for the upcoming winters in Alberta! That's THE heart of The Great White North, and gets down in the SUB, sub, sub zeeero temperatures (On the Kelvin scale!)!

In other words...one cold-assed place!
