Yeah, and the boys from down yonder in a town that is now a meth-infested morass also called their diesel-electric motive power motors. Old heads I worked with called them units, that would be PRR, N&W (different location), and NKP. Oh, WAB, tu.

Gripe with engineman is I think of the OTHER organization when I hear or read that term.

I'm sure the HAWG can't see that faggy highball. There, Uke, I've said it, but I still think that it's the faggiest highball I've ever seen. Oh, at 0:48, thank you, Clavalin, for the correction.

ISHO, nicely shortened to "E-SCAB"

At various Snippily infested locations....

N&W - Unit

Old NS - Motor

Green Team - Engine

Blue Team - Motor (E-Loc) or Diesel

Oldest of the old heads at any location: Diesel or Unit

An engine was a steam locomotive and a motor was an E-loc.

P-town boys all called them motors, Snip. Only guys I ever heard say that. I never heard any Green Team types down in TQCOTW call them motors but since the Green Team dieselized early on, I don't know that I ever met any Green Team steam men. I did know a guy who had two uncles who'd been Silk Stocking men but they both go furloughed when the Green Team dieselized and left for green pastures.

Most of the 2LARRCO guys who worked in Q territory called locomotives motors. Around here in the Polish Riviera we usually refer to them as units or engines.

*cy*, fix your cataract. Should Snippy have said that they called them "MOTORS" on the REAL NS?

No, Old NS was sufficient.  Didn't leave the farm soon enough for you to say that.

Left the farm before Green fired any the REAL NS Engineers or marked up the Greenwashed ones from Birmingham School for Locomotively Challenged.

Spent some time working Alliance during the BN era... Every damn one of the employees at the diesel shop called the units...motors!

Farm boys, every last one of 'em. Nary a one knew which end was which... Uke had to show them the motors, and the proper names for every damn mechanical part on their fuckin' GEunker Dash-7s!

Montana grunts referred to locomotives as motors as well... Back east, they were locomotives, or units...especially when referred to by specific number. Like 'the 3106...' or the unit out on S-4, etc.

I get the feeling that's a regional thing. But knowledge of the main components, and which end is which...you'd figure that anyone who's served a 'real' apprenticeship as a shop craft grunt oughta know the basic shit!

We know where the front is, Uke.  It's the end with the F on it.

The academy used to be in Birmingham, Snippy?  Didn't know that, not that it matters.
