The Hong Kong Centre for Food Safety is advising companies to stop selling and to recall what it describes as "a small portion" of beef from XL Foods which had made its way to local shops.

"We will continue liaising with the Canadian authorities and closely monitor the situation," the agency said in a notice posted Friday online. "Relevant control measures will be reviewed when further information is obtained."

The agency said imports have been suspended for XL products which were produced on or after August 24.

Canadian E. coli case confirmed in B.C.

Meanwhile, the number of cases of E. coli in Canada linked to the strain from XL's contaminated product now sits at 11, with a new case discovered on Vancouver Island.

The butcher where I buy beef most often, up until now, says the supply gap caused by

this mess is being filled by a lot of American product processed by Cargill. I saw Food Inc.

So I will be spending the extra pesos to get my steaks and roasts from the local small butcher

shop where the beef comes from farmers he knows, locally.

The alternative? Pork, the 'other' white meat. Chicken works just as well when ya crave animal protein!

I'm going to the place where walleye,

commonly known as pickerel or "picks" over there, are plentiful.

The most coveted of culinary delicacies is fried pickerel cheeks.

Cut from a spot very close to the eyes but it is not the eyes. heh :)

Its the cheeks. Firm, mild tasting, very dense flesh.

Ridiculously expensive as a restaraunt item, but really worth trying.
