Around HERE, by the time the boss got done whining, got up, stared out the window for 30 seconds or so, looked for his vest, scratched his nuts, went down in the nose to take a piss, come back up and scratch his ass, come to your side and see if you're using sand, put his vest on, looked for his radio, turned it on, finally tuned it to the right channel, went out the back door, came back in to get his lantern and then went back out to see which one wasn't loading, you would have been stalled for 10 minutes.  The next thing you would hear was your BO'Ts voice on the radio triumphantly announcing that he did indeed find the problem child and that the Turbo Lube light is lit.

Your BOT would knows about sand?

Calvin, your BOT wouldn't get up and ask, "What am I looking for?"

Snippy, it's Australia. DUH. Things are different there.

These Boyz round here gotta crank on 50 to 80 brakes when they stall on the hill, depending on which hill they stall on.

Yes, they learn fast what to look for...

Snippy is instantly removed from service and given a Major violation of the IDPAP.

Viewing signals thru unapprooved glass.

Stop signal looks yellow instead of red thru 20,000X magnification.

Apparantly they havent found out yet that having 4, 4 axel locomotives on a heavy grain train in mountainus area

is not a good idea. Had they all been 6 axel locomotives they probably woulda went.

I cant believe all the locos were out of sand.

I can see the dust from sand as its comin up the hill.

its not rainin, I dont see any greasers, just one sander on a lead engine would have dressed the rail nicely.

Too much sand can slow the cars up, so just enuff sand for the engines and blown off/ ground off before the cars have to roll thru it.

Guess the rail could have been lacking tho...does it look like a siding its on maybe? Those passenger trains look like they are on concrete ties, bigger rail..

In the United Snakes, the greasers would have been strategically located at the bottom of the hill, just before the top of the hill (on each side), and before and after every curve on the hill. They might have one particularly well maintained one at The Summit, too.

I also noticed that each time he stopped he didn't rev up to blow out (cool) the traction motors.  I am sure that he exceded the short time rating by a rather substantial margin.

Old Peavine HAWG (Portsmouth-Cincinnati), whose name was, unforgettably, Lacey Ferguson, closest thing to mountain railroading in those parts, couple of tough grades, always around the curve somewhere, told about the young brakeman he had who thought he was an up-and-comer, pulling up a grade, running over the short-time ratings, young man was concerned, asked him if he thought he was taking an awful chance. His response was, "Young man, I haven't even begun to PULL on them yet".

Poor ol' Lacey was in a van accident while deadheading, got banged around pretty good, he and one other guy got their disabilities out of that wreck. Disability yes, but pain, no thank you.

Gotta agree with Blackie here:

"I also noticed that each time he stopped he didn't rev up to blow out (cool) the traction motors. I am sure that he exceded the short time rating by a rather substantial margin."

Having changed out a few overheated traction motors, and cooked motors on 'older' EMDs, especially on Fs, and early Geeps...D-76, 77, and even 78s... You can run 'em seriously hot. For a while...but when they stall... Ya might hafta call for help!

Found a successful trip up the same grade I believe with the 567's at max.

Australian Railways; EMD's down under; Three 567's, a full load and a 2% grade
