Train Derailment Hamilton

HAMILTON, Ohio - No one was hurt when two cars of a CSX cargo train derailed in Hamilton at about 8:15 p.m. Friday.

An investigation by the Hazardous Materials Unit determined that the flat cars were empty and posed no health risks, according to Deputy Chief Troy Pugh with the Hamilton Fire Department. It's unclear what type of cargo or chemicals the train was hauling.

The derailment occurred on a bridge over State Route 127 and caused backups at all rail crossings between Front and Hanover streets. The crossing closures affected traffic on some side streets but police did not close any major roadways.

9 On Your Side photographer Marcus Nichols said some of the derailed cars' wheels were dislodged. Other debris from the cars is littered across a stretch of the railroad track, he said.

Officials continue to investigate the cause of the derailment.
