About Pier 6, AKA: "Lamberts Point"

Lamberts Point Coal Terminal

Lamberts Point Coal Terminal is an NS-served and operated transshipment terminal located on the Elizabeth River in Norfolk, VA. Annual throughput capacity is 48 million tons. The heart of the terminal is Pier 6, which has two shiploaders that permit the facility to load two vessels simultaneously. Twin tandem rotary dumpers feed the shiploaders for a combined dumping capacity of up to 8,000tons per hour. Vessel loading rates are augmented by two surge silos.

Pier 6's versatility allows the loading of vessels ranging in size from small coastwise barges to large Cape-sized vessels. The pier is 1,850 feet long. Both loading berths and the layberth have been dredged to allow loading to a 50-foot draft. The shiploaders can accommodate vessels with a beam of 175 feet and an air draft of 74 feet.

Complete coal blending and mixing is available for both metallurgical and steam coal applications. A four-stage sampling system, operated independently by Sampling Associates International, is available to provide ASTM- ISO-approved samples for all cargoes. Thaw sheds ensure that dumping can continue even in severe winter weather. The efficiency of the thawing system eliminates the need and expense of applying freeze-proofing chemicals at the coal mine loadout.

Lamberts Point operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Brochures describing this facility and its unique operating capabilities are available

POS Dodge Aspen. Had one when I went to Columbus AFB Ms. What a POS!

cracked the distributer cap every 2 weeks like clockwork. Was not a bent shaft.

I was told I washed the car too often and was squirting cold water on a hot distributer

cap, thus cracking it.

BullShit I said.

Got rid of the POS when I got home and got a new job...bought a new Chevy Pickup.

First and last Chrysler product.

I wore earplugs when it was rule adverse. I started wearing them in 1984, it was after my oldest son was born, when I went back on the road and couldn't stand the noise anymore. I wish I had started wearing them when I hired out, maybe I wouldn't be listening to this incessant cricket all the time, or asking my wife, "What was that?".

She has ear issues of her own, though, and she wasn't exposed to a loud noise environment.

Same here. Back in the 70's they warned me I could get myself in trouble not hearing something that should have been heard in order  to detect a safe operation issue. All the same my last medical switching jobs the Doc gave me a good once over and and said your hearing is great...for a man of 65...too bad you're only 57 . Anyway there's worse cases out there .

Eh ? HUH ???
