 In Krinkles defense, they just started playing heavy on the TVs.  I made the mistake of showing lil Pipes, he loved it.  Not sure that was their target audience.

      Don't know why Pipes would have to defend Krink, no one was attacking him.

      Pipes is totally correct in his observation that NS could give a flying fuck about WhistleDicks in these TV commercials.

      Why would NS spend money to attract more trespassers to the most dangerous ground they own...the yard?

      WhistleDicks already know that trains are wonderful and photogenic and fun to ride.

      NS is targeting John Q Public who only interacts with the railroad when he has to sit in his car and wait for a train to pass.

      NS is targeting the Voting public who vote on zoning, land use, and regulation.

     NS is not going to convince a WhistleDick that all the equipment is shiny and new and runs on a schedule.

     When it comes right down to it NS has had similar advertising in the Wall Street Journal for years!

     Yer average Joe Schmoe WhistleDick don't read the WSJ.

     Looking thru the glass and seeing finely dressed Gentlemen dining on Prime Rib may say Steak House to you,

     but it just mite be a Private Club.

A TV ad with so many meanings apparently. Dont think the NS was
going after railfans to "flock trackside" but a reminder that the railroads
can still "move your load" just about anywhere and days faster than
in the past. The "Container philosophy" is always going to be in the mix.
I think its wise for any huge railroad today to get "into the mix" of TV
ads about transporting freight. While you may not be on a railroad
spur, you can load a semi-container with whatever and it can be on
a railroad flatcar in hours. Not enough railroads advertising on TV although
CSX has been the most seen lately.

TVA to close 8 coal-powered units in Ala., Ky.

The nation's largest public utility voted Thursday to close six coal-powered units in Alabama and replace two more in Kentucky with a new natural gas plant.

At the board meeting in Oxford, Miss., Tennessee Valley Authority CEO Bill Johnson said increasingly stringent environmental regulations and flat power demand have made it necessary to rethink how the utility generates electricity.

"This is a personal nightmare for me," said Peter Mahurin, a board member from Bowling Green, Ky., said of the decision. "But I must support what I believe to be in the best interest of TVA's customers."

In fiscal year 2013, coal accounted for 38% of TVA's portfolio while natural gas made up 8%. Johnson said he would like to see those numbers closer to 20% each over the next decade.

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell met with Johnson last month to seek continued operation of all three coal-burning units at Paradise Fossil Plant in Drakesboro, Ky. The board had previously approved upgrading the two oldest units with environmental controls. But on Thursday, Chief Operating Officer Chip Pardee recommended building a gas plant there instead.

He said the third unit at Paradise is newer and has sufficient environmental controls to continue operating on coal.

The board also voted to close all five units at the Colbert plant in northwest Alabama and one of two remaining units that had not been marked for closure at the Widow's Creek plant in northeast Alabama.

Board member Joe Ritch, of Huntsville, Ala., echoed Mahurin's comments on the closures, saying, "As painful as it is, it's the right thing to do."

He said that saving a few jobs now would reduce TVA's competitiveness for years to come.
