Train hits tractor trailer in Somerset; nearby water park evacuated

SOMERSET, Ky. (WKYT) - Emergency crews have evacuated a water park as a precaution, following an accident involving a train and a tractor trailer nearby.

The Pulaski County Sheriff's Office says the train hit the tractor trailer Friday afternoon on Highway 2227, near SomerSplash Waterpark.

The Pulaski County Public Safety Director says the cab of the tractor trailer, which was carrying lighter fluid, caught fire. The fire has since been put out.

The driver of the tractor trailer was taken to the hospital with burns, but emergency crews say his injuries are not life threatening.

Highway 2227 is closed at Highway 1575, according to emergency officials.

Dispatchers say the SomerSplash Waterpark has been evacuated.

Russell County Prosecuter Accused of Affair With Defendant
07-18-14 The Russell County Commonwealth's Attorney has been accused of having an affair with and impregnating a defendant whom he prosecuted for felony drug trafficking. Matthew Leveridge is alleged to have carried on a two-month long sexual relationship with Lashley Sartain, then filing a motion to end her probation after she told Leveridge's wife about the affair. Leveridge cited a pending misdemeanor shoplifting charge as his reason for revoking Sartain's probation in the drug case. After filing the motion, Leveridge disqualified himself. Wayne County Attorney Thomas Simmons took over the case and withdrew the motion.
