I can think of practical use already..drones

monitoring the beaches from Everett to Seattle

and the 30 miles of double track and 50 trains

a day. You cant believe what a nightmare this

can get on a sunny warm weekend or anyday of

the week where people still think they "walk the

tracks" in this area. People all the time taking

shortcuts over the rails to get to the beach and

all sorts of other things. Way too much teritory

for a single railroad gumshoe to cover and it may

take an hour to get to the reported call. By then

the "person" is long gone. Thankfully this technology

came after my career on the railroad but youz

still workin' on the railroad may not be so excited

about drones buzzing above your rail yard as your

switchin cars. The long arm of technology continues

to get longer.

This will allow Gus (Melonas) ta work from home. He'll be able ta monitor the entire Northwest Division without ever leaving home!

Fly one about a mile ahead of every train. No more washout/landslide surprises,  could be used to ensure switches lined and signals displaying properly at interlockings, they are spending how much on PTC??
