Six train cars derailed from an elevated track as a train headed into the CSX yard near 3rd and Gest streets Thursday.
Cincinnati Police, hazmat and CSX crews responded around 11 p.m. when the covered hopper cars derailed.
The cars remained on the elevated track, and the site of the derailment is over CSX property so there is no danger to the public. No hazardous materials are involved. There were no injuries to the crew, said Rob Doolittle, a spokesperson for CSX.
One of the cars carried plastic pellets. The other five cars were empty.
CSX is responding with crews to re-rail the cars and restore service to the line, but it will be several hours before re-railing begins, said Doolittle.
The cause of the derailment is unknown and CSX is investigating.
Gest Street is closed in both directions between Linn and Pete Rose Way. 3rd Street is blocked between Gest and Linn.

There are places under that bridge where people park their cars every day. There was a part-time desk clerk at one of our old hotels who had a huge piece of concrete fall off of that bridge and do extensive damage to her car. I believe that her car was fixed by CSX, as I recall.
Used to drive by here almost every trip on our rides to and from the TQOTW AFHT lodging.
That's where I went to get my on the job training part of BOSS school.
We had a whistledick in our class and everytime a train went over that elevated track he was out there watching it, and not paying attention to what we were doing.
Changed my first knuckle there. (had to do it, was part of test, if you couldn't replace the knuckle you didn't get hired) Tounge in cheek...only one I ever replaced in 17 years.
