Number of U.S. railroad workers testing positive for drug use skyrockets

Early this year, a railroad worker who had just been briefed on his duties for the day was discovered in a restroom, dead from an overdose of illegal prescription drugs. In the months that followed, tests conducted after three railroad accidents resulted in six employees testing positive for drugs.

Testing in 2016 has shown that nearly 8 percent of workers involved in rail accidents were positive for drug use, including marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy, benzodiazepine, OxyContin and morphine, according to internal federal documents obtained by The Washington Post.

Those numbers reflect 8% of the rails involved in "accidents".

Most rails are not involved in accidents on any given day.

Makes one wonder. That's quite a list of intoxicants. Back in the day

there was your boozers, longhairs smoking the odd twister, and a little bit of

bennies and dexies going around maybe.

What I will put into print is my last 10 years of railroad service was drug/alchahol free.
Passed 4 random drug tests. You can change if you have to. Was surprised to read the
the news article on the uptick of railroaders drug use.

Three times is the limit for 2LARRCO employees to do 'in patient' rehab, (Alky and durgs) under EAP. There have been 2 guys who've been repeaters. Both remained employed by the outfit in spite of the rules.

Maybe they had negative tests (pee-pee) after their third trips... Neither one is in train service. Maybe that saved them both.

I know of 2 guys who had issues with meth while they were in train service. For one of them it was a second go round. Both were fired for separate incidents after doing a stint in rehab. I always wonder with the amount of stimulants in energy drinks if they affected people?

Never tried "5-hour energy" drinks but Clint Boyer endorses them. Steam is right about all these
energy drinks as there is a likelihood of "getting buzzed" on them...more of cocaine influence than
say weed.

"this train was brought to you by 5 Hour Energy". They should have me do a commercial.

Keeping one in the bottom of the lunch tote for special occasions

of unforseen circumstances leading to a unusually demanding tour is

relatively harmless practice but can cause things

such as communicating in run on sentences and

once while if indulging in doubles, seeing noises .
