They said that one year and then called me for a grain train that they claimed the VP of Operations ordered them to run. Somehow, I managed to talk my way out of it and they got some other guy. I told the TM I'd go if he'd ride with me and he wouldn't do it. He finally said, we'll see if we can find someone else, this being the best TM we ever had. Kids had answered the phone and I was like seven times out. Trick me. Phukkers.

I was lucky in my rr career to not spend much time on a Xtraboard. The very early
days of my clerical career I just happened to be renting a house that was a mile away
from the Everett Depot. So I learnt that in the clerks rulebook that when the process of
filling a vacant job/position and I'm on the Xtrabrd and I don't answer my phone, that
they send someone out to knock on door and maybe that will work. After that I made
sure I lived many miles away from the depot...I became a "commuter".

"this doesn't mean we won't be calling you"

"yeah, but it means I won't be answering"

In something like 1951, the yard in Cy's old home terminal was moved from the west side of town to the east side of town but they never changed the calling limits that permitted, indeed, required them to go to someone's house. I knew at least one guy who took full advantage of this because, after several years, they kind of didn't really honor or remember the agreement. He'd disconnect his phone about once every year to year-and-a-half, miss a call, they'd never send anyone to the house, he'd timeslip for the round trip because he lived within the calling limits, and collected every time. They never did catch on.

What?  If Clavalin hadn't posted all those advertisements from the Road of Anthracite, Cy wouldn't even have that avatar.  So the artist didn't draw hands so well.

So any BNSF operator/bridgetender jobs still in existence in Daloot? If there were
they'd be working the 24hrs of Christmas Eve/24hrs of Christmas Day.

Looks like NS took to heart all of the Trainorders discussion of 12/13/16 wrt the original NS plan to stop operations from Saturday 12/24 3pm through Tuesday 12/27 7AM. Of course, NS said the change to Monday's ops was due to weather - right!

How did I miss this post!

Yes Krinker, the bridge is manned from 6am to 1am, 7 days a week. It used to be operational 24 hours a day but since the decrease in traffic between Daloot and Superior, they only have 2 shifts worth of clerks.

They used to run across the interstate bridge which ran from Superior tu Dalott via 2 swing bridges across St. Louis bay, which I have been across there as a kid and it was phukking terrifying. Any derailment and that train would be sitting in 80 feet of water...and cold water at that!
