Then again, what's he gonna do if they vote no way? Maybe he'll just go away quietly. Nah don't bet on it. he's young enough that he feels that he's gotta prove he's as good as any of the past big shots of the industry. Yeah right!

http://www.seattletimes.com/business/csx-railroad-wants-shareholder-vote-on-hedge-funds-demands/

From this angle, it appears like he's just a big fuckin' ego driven megalomaniac railroad wannabe!

Dear Colleagues,

Working together, we have made compelling progress on our company strategy and delivered strong business results, but we still face significant challenges. While you delivered record productivity gains and our best-ever operating ratio in 2016, incremental improvements are not enough. Even more aggressive measures are needed to deliver improved efficiency and regain our leadership position in 2017.

To that end, we have made the difficult decision to eliminate approximately 1,000 CSX management positions, impacting both headquarters and field employees. All management positions will be reviewed, and impacted employees will be notified in mid to late March.

To assist those employees, the company has implemented an Involuntary Separation Program for management employees with several key components: 1) an enhanced severance payment, 2) an enhanced pension benefit, 3) outplacement services, and 4) the opportunity for certain eligible employees to self-select for separation. You will receive additional information this morning from Cressie Brown, our Chief Administrative Officer, which details these provisions.

We remain profoundly grateful for the contributions that all employees have made to the company and the CSX of Tomorrow strategy, having improved our network, our service to customers, our technology and our culture. In connection with this program, we will adapt our work as necessary to ensure that we continue to deliver value to customers, shareholders and employees.

I know this is difficult news to hear, and I can assure you it was not an easy decision to make. However, it is essential to CSXs ability to remain competitive in a challenging and changing market. Through this process, I ask that you continue to uphold CSX values, promote safety, focus on delivering Service Excellence to customers, and support each other through the transition.

Thank you for all you have done, for me, and for this company.

Sincerely,

Michael Ward

It's not that simple.

I don't think that you have quite figured out the fucker's MO.

T&E have traditionally very much been in his sights. Well, only the ones who may break a rule, anyway.

Shippers advocacy groups are hardly convinced, though. When Hunter Harrison was at CN, the results were pretty mixed, says Bob Ballantyne, chairman of the Coalition of Rail Shippers. May concurs. Although CNs service remained largely unchanged after Harrisons retirement, the company adopted a gentler approach to customer relations. One of the problems with Hunter was, he was pretty gruff, May says. It was hard to get anything but a screw you out of CN if you were complaining.

By way of illustrating how efficiency and service sometimes clash, May recalls a branch line in Alberta, on which CN served four companies with a 120-car train. One of the customers doubled its business, and wanted 80 cars instead of its usual 40. But a 160-unit train was too long, and CN balked at adding another train. The response by the railway, initially, was to not give them the service they wanted, May recalls. And when pressured, they took away cars from the other customers on that line. But nobody ended up getting what they needed. Customer service, he says, became thoroughly subordinated to driving profitability for shareholders. Thats really whats at the core of whats wrong with Mr. Harrisons model.

Some customers fear CPs service is now suffering. Some of our members have expressed concern over how much service, attitude and communications have deteriorated at CP over the last several months, says Susan Murray, spokesperson for the Forest Products Association of Canada. But customers probably have less leverage than the unions. Their best hope was the Fair Rail Freight Service Act bill, the result of years of complaints and lobbying about rail service in Canada. Unveiled in December, it would give shippers new rights to service contracts with railways, and a new system to resolve disputes. But May calls the legislation underwhelming, saying it benefits railways more than shippers.

4 minutes old:

 http://finance.yahoo.com/news/csx-reaches-deal-hedge-fund-hires-railroad-ceo-231141734--finance.html

CSX said it plans to ask shareholders to vote on aspects of Harrison's compensation package

that would include reimbursing him for $84 million in compensation he forfeited at CP.

Harrison says he will resign if the compensation isn't approved.

Let the looting begin. Watch the infrastructure crumble.

Avoid those exploding oil trains.
