VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) Authorities have arrested two people who were among those blocking train tracks in Vancouver, Washington, to oppose oil trains and fossil fuels.

Demonstrators blocked BNSF's main rail line Monday to protest a proposed oil terminal at the Port of Vancouver that could handle about 360,000 barrels of oil a day.

BNSF Railway spokeswoman Courtney Wallace says BNSF Police arrested two people for criminal trespassing and other charges. She says tracks were safely cleared after an hour.

Tesoro Corp. and Savage Cos., operating as Vancouver Energy, want to build a facility that would receive an average of four 1˝-mile long crude oil trains a day, likely traveling between Spokane and Vancouver. Oil would be loaded onto ships bound for West Coast refineries.

Opponents say oil trains pose a threat to the environment and communities along the rail line.

A state energy panel is reviewing the project. It will make a make a recommendation to Gov. Jay Inslee, who has the final say.

Hasn't been any protesting for a long time and now Vancouver Wa decides to give it one last
chance. "Resistance is futile". The railroads "have" to run these trains and have the green light
to do so. If I lived in Vancouver WA I wouldn't be to thrilled to learn that a oil to ships facility
that would unload 4-oil trains a day. Puts the BNSF route along the Columbia River with even
more oil trains. BNSF already running 6-7 loaded oil trains along the Columbia River westbound
all heading to Everett/Fidalgo/ARCO Ferndale. New business is new business but has to increase
the odds that maybe during MIR some year that some bad derailment could happen. I know the
BNSF track from Pasco to Vancouver WA is state of the art heavy rail and concrete ties and good
for 60MPH speeds.

Still makes little, if any sense, why they route oil south ta Pasco, then west along the Gorge, above the Columbia, then through Tacoma, Setatle, Everett to reach the refineries on Fidalgo. They're already running on the old 'high line' out Dakota, through Wyoming, Idaho...through Spokane, why turn south at Ritzville, to Pasco?

Stay on the ex-NP across Washington, and avoid Seattle, and Everett altogether and make straight to the refiners around Fidalgo? Save on track maintenance, and miles... The nothern-most route avoids big towns, and all the negative bullschitt as well!

Uke the BNSF in WA State has a couple of nasty grades across the Cascades and a route that
is "all downhill" to Vancouver WA. Its called the "WA State Triangle" on the BNSF. BNSF sends
every loaded oil/coal/grain train this route even if the destination is Seattle-Tacoma-Everett-
Canada. Takes 4-bigs to move trains this way. Now if any of the loaded oil/coal/grain trains
had to go over the passes it would require 10-bigs very similar to the MRL in Montana that
actually do have 10-bigs to get most of these trains to Spokane. So the BNSF utilizes the nasty
grade routes for all empty trains. The BNSF "triangle crews" based in Auburn WA (NP) to run
nothing but empty trains to Pasco. Then they run nothing but loaded trains to Vancouver WA.
And then Vancouver Wa to Auburn. Pretty interesting life for train crews taking on this challenge.

Big stackers coming outa Seattle run 4 bigs on the point, with two DPUs on the ass end for helping cross Scenic Sub grades, up and down. No reason coal/oil unit trains can't cross the old Northern Lines thatta way tu! Shorten oil trains, use helpers on the ass end!

Although 2LARRCO has excess crews located at strategic points (Ellensburg, Pasco, Auburn), they might consider alternate/shorter routes to the refineries around Anacortes/Ferndale.
