In Lac-Mégantic, few expected a guilty verdict, or wanted one

The mood at the cafés and bars in Lac-Mégantic Friday night was subdued, as the news began to sink in that the three railway employees who faced criminal charges in the rail disaster that killed 47 people here in July of 2013 had been found not guilty.

After all this, the deaths, destruction, and injuries, there must be some recourse through civil court, unlike the 'not guilty' acquittals in the criminal case. One would think so. Insurance underwriters don't just write off disasters like this.

What about the civil cases? That railroad that left those tankers there the Maine Montreal Atlantic have to be held accountable for the deaths and destruction after all. That outfit IS ultimately at fault!
