Paul Ulerick, owner of Amelio's on the River, a couple blocks west of where the derailment occurred, said he and a staff member were waiting on customers when they heard a squeal and a thump. After looking down Lytle and noticing the derailment, Ulerick said they contacted the police. They then went down to the scene, Ulerick continued, where they saw the derailed car was sealed and determined it was empty by rapping on its exterior.

 

Wasnt it Snippy who said there is a "tick" sound first???

Clavalin, Cy believes that was when hitting a propane truck or other potentially explosive. Cy remembers the gasoline truck he missed by a few feet, when he broke the whistle handle off. Cy remembers the crew that said they were in the floor hugging one another and not ashamed of it when a propane truck pulled out in front of them and they clipped it but nothing happened, on the CSX trackage rights at Stockton, north of TQCOTW.
