GE Union Workers Stay Positive and Keep Working

Erie GE still making locomotives, in spite of its plan to move 570 jobs south to Texas. Some 200 union workers have been called back, mingling hope with uncertainty.

Caterpillar to Shut Facilities, Layoff 880 Jobs to Cut Costs

Caterpillar Inc. is planning to close two facilities in Texas and Panama and is also mulling the shutdown of its engine manufacturing plant in Illinois, per a Reuters report. Though the move could lead to a layoff of 880 jobs, it is in sync with the company's strategy to cut cost. Consequently, this will boost margins and equip the company to better handle business cycles.

I own lotsa shares of both outfits. One thing you forget about CAT, they've got a whole lotta irons in the fire. Ya need ta educate yourself about BOTH companies before you base your one-sided opinion on one article.

Of course GE has been around a long time, and they were ready to pack it in a few months ago, even considering dumping the locomotive side... Now what does that tell ya?

CAT is an old industrial outfit as well, and they build much more than locomotives. Ever consider their line of stationary gas turbine standby gen-sets? Do ya know about their standby auxiliary-emergency power for hospitals? Fire trucks? Heavy-haul mining trucks? Tracked vehicles? Armored vehicles for US military services? Police vehicles, municipal trucks, snow plows, pavement rollers, pavers, spreaders... Graders. Shovels. Back hoes. Dozers, and more.

GE still makes light bulbs, refrigerators, kitchen appliances, X-ray imagers, CT scanners, and locomotives for domestic, and export passenger service, and freight service. Oh yeah, GE diesel engines are also used in marine propulsion as well. Either as auxiliary, or main power, depending on vessel size/tonnage. Then again CAT engines are applied to marine uses as well.

So ya wanna split hairs over locomotives? GE doesn't just 'sell' their units to the railroads. They're leased to the outfit. And GE repairs/maintains/replaces in kind EVERY unit which fails on line. In other words, GE owns 'em forever. They don't sell 'em, you lease 'em!

Keep reading. There's always more to the story...

Might want to fact check yourself on those.

Haier makes GE appliances and owns Appliance Park now.

Some lighting may still made by GE. They have licensed out their name to other manufacturers on a lot of household lighting products.

GE's long time shine has indeed been tarnished by their overall corporate performance the last five, seven years. In other words, they don't know what they are any more!

Are they an electrical manufacturing company? A transportation company (jumbo-jet turbines), or locomotives, or a medical device manufacturer, lighting equipment maker, or a software company? Exactly what the fuck is GE in 2018? Apparently their entire management top down has no idea. Zip! Nope! No clue!

They're pissing away a 125 year reputation as an industrial leader, and the oldest industrial conglomerate component, and bedrock of the Dow-Jones industrials. One of Thirty Great American companies. CAT is right up there as well, although they don't make light bulbs. Yet...

What portion of their revenue is derived through licensing their name/logo on appliances made in Malaysia/China/Indonesia/Taiwan?

In any case everything we're on about is moot. Calvin absolutely oves GE... And*** has holdings (stock ownwership/shares) in GE and CAT. Both are still reliable, solid international manufacturers. Although *** has actually invested with both outfits, happily so... Where's Aclivia's loyalty to GE, really?
