Actually my Veterans group will help out with a road race as guides and monitors. One of them nationwide "Turkey Trot" things. There's a few levels like half-marathon, 10-K, 5-K, and a kids walk/runat 2.5-K. Afterwards they give out prizes, etc. As far as a Thanksgiving dinner goes, no plans. Yet.

I thought your knees were shot.
I still think that you are letting that bike rot because it needs a good fitting for you.

No running for this oldster. If I make 5 miles every few days (walking at my pace), is a good thing. Ya gotta remember health issues other than that knee!

Looks like lotsa wetness comin' right up for the misnamed "Sunshine State"! Yep. The warnings are obvious IF ya pay attention ta Faux Nooz WeatherTV-13. Get out now while yer head's above water, and yer car is able ta move.
Cy? Yo Cy...are ya still there Cy? Well if I were you, grab the missus, the dog, and the birds, and hit the road, while there is still a road that you can drive on. GTFO of there ASAP!

No dog, no birds. It is raining.
Alarmists, similar to those placing Snippy in a winter tsunami.

Au contraire mon ami... "Snippy" is huddled beside the dying embers of the last few sticks of kindling of his open fire on the kitchen floor, 'cause his wood stove died last Wednesday... Poor, poor "Snippy"!
However you may still have time, since you have no pets to worry about, that may be a plus...or not. Get out now! Delay may lead to your demise under water, depending on how long you can tread water, or actually swim.
Yeah but... What of "Snippy,"? We wish him well, since he's probably buried in snow, and ice by now, or may have frozen to death. Too bad. What can we do out here in GPNWlandia? Nothing more, nothing less. Not a damn thing! However you have been warned Cy! Do as you will.
Good luck. And good bye!

Alas, poor Snippy, we knew him (sort of) well. Such a fate he (maybe) has suffered.
Cy has no pets only because you can't just leave them and you can't always take them where you're going. Otherwise, we would have found a successor for the late, sadly missed, Desi, a long time ago.
Bye, uh, glug, buh, glug, uh-oh. . .

Friday there was a wind storm predicted with gusts 40-60mph. Port Angeles WA got hit hardest early in the morning
and the whole city without power for 12 hours. My hood it was calm all day but just after dark the roar began up in the
tall tree tops. I started fixing my dinner a little early as the lights began to flicker. Managed to cook/eat/cleanup dinner
and pour a cocktail before the lights went out for good about 7pm. So outside in the dark watching and listening to wind.
Best way to describe it is these gusts were like "shockwaves" as the volume of what was 20-10-5 miles away is here and
taking down trees and tripping transformers with bright flashes in the sky and its loud outside. Witnessed about 4-5 of these
"pulses of wind" that had the majestic cottonwood trees dancing to the breaking point. Think the hood is spared damage other
the power out for an hour and a half. Seattle still had 70K without power as of 11pm news. Tomorrow we may get some actual
wind gust reports but I can say from experience the gusts I got Friday evening were 55mph+. Doesn't sound that scary?
It was. Especially when trees are being blown down around you and your house.

Sure glad Oregon is safe for the moment. Although anything could happen weatherwise. At any time. Chicago ain't lookin' so good right now...
...might even be warmer Snippylvania, or Cyville. Just in case that 'polar vortex' thing shows up in the GPNW

Heard discussion that a polar vortex over WA/OR is very unlikely/impossible due to the temp of the Pacific Ocean
and the mountains. The nearest comparison is the "North Easter" which follows the Fraser River Canyon from the Yukon
and further north and spill out in northwest WA/BC lower mainland with 50MPH winds and the wind chill drops by the minute.
Usually some snow to start it it off that will stick around for a week. It's the "wind" most Whatcom County residents will
tell you is the worst part and everything is frozen. 10PM Walter Kelly Wednesday says we going to get some snow Sun/Mon
and how much still to be known. Forcast still undergoing fine tuning. One thing for sure it will be 3-4-5 nights down to 20F
which would be the coldest stretch so far this winter. It doesnt look to be a long lived North Easter as sometimes they can
last 2-weeks this one 2-3-4 days. After watching the live bird feeder in Akron OH and that crowd showing no effects of
eating from the feeder in single digit temps I'll be sure to setout seeds like usual.

Wind chill values are a hoax.
This morning, they are saying that tumorrow the temperatures will be "close to 100º (M) warmer than today". ("It'll feel that much warmer." -- oh, bull fucking schitt.)
BIG snow storm hits Settle! First time since about '96, when 4" closed everything down. Nothing moved for damn near a week!
An electrician who works ar Interbay sent this pic outside the RoHo where guys were getting set to spin a unit and line it for a stall for repairs

What a great picture. I think the last picture I took at Interbay from this location was 1972. Listening to the BNSF airwaves
no problem with the snow so far but 1-3" more snow on top of the 2" Stupor Bowl Sunday overnight. 4-5" of snow possible
laying about come Monday morning commute. That's one I'll be glad to sit out. Temps Sunday was 35-34-33-32F all day and
its going down to the 20'sF overnight. The really cold nights are ahead. And I learnt that this is not a short term blast/taste of
winter but this could last way more than a week. More snow ahead.
