Off-Duty Officer Shoots Suspect In Logan
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3)
An off-duty Philadelphia Police officer shot a suspect after witnessing the suspect allegedly shoot and kill a teenager.
The incident happened in the city's Logan section at about 3:30 p.m. Monday afternoon.
Police said the off-duty officer witnessed the 19-year-old suspect shoot an 18-year-old near Broad and Chew Streets. The 18-year-old was later pronounced dead.
Following the shooting, the off-duty officer chased the suspect on foot to Broad and Duncannon Streets. Police said the officer shot the suspect several times after the suspect reportedly reached for his waistband.
The teen was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center and is listed in stable condition.
The off-duty officer was not injured in the shooting.
The incident happened in the city's Logan section Monday afternoon.

Philadelphia police are looking for Leon Fleetwood, 22, in the murder of Khalif Bradford, 21, who was shot to death Jan. 6 near his home on Holden Street near Powelton Avenue, West Philadelphia.
Fleetwood, 5 feet 11, 165 pounds, is the subject of a murder warrant. He frequents the neighborhood of the shooting and apartments on Busti Street near Holden, police said. Thomas Williams, 24, of 67th Street near Greenway Avenue, Southwest Philadelphia, was found shot to death about 9 p.m. Wednesday outside a residence on Myrtlewood Street near York in Southwest Philadelphia, police said.
He had been shot in the stomach, torso and back, police said. He was pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital.
Woman killed in crash
A woman was killed last night in a car crash outside a Northeast Philadelphia CVS. Police said a burgundy Pontiac Grand Am slammed into the back of the woman's parked Nissan in the lot outside the CVS on Dungan Road near Rhawn Street at 7:35 p.m.
The woman, whose name was not released, died from unspecified injuries at Frankford Hospital-Torresdale at 8:30 p.m. The driver of the Grand Am was arrested for possibly driving under the influence, police said.
City gets vacant-property $
The city has been awarded $16.8 million by the U.S. Housing and Urban Development Department to address the devastating effects of abandoned and foreclosed properties in neighborhoods.
Philadelphia's Neighborhood Stabilization Program will use the funds to acquire, rehab and resell vacant foreclosed properties in areas with high rates of foreclosure. The Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority will implement NSP, creating partnerships with both for-profit and nonprofit developers.
2 convicted in strangulation
A man and a woman were convicted yesterday and sentenced in Camden Superior Court in the strangulation of the woman's husband, Vincent Latta, 68, on Dec. 5, 2005, in his garage on Constitution Road in Camden.
Marcus K. Perkins, 33, of Yorkship Road, was sentenced to 35 years in prison on murder and related charges, and April Latta, 46, was sentenced to two 18-year terms on counts of aggravated manslaughter and robbery. *

Deadly Stabbing In North Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3)
Police are investigating a deadly stabbing in North Philadelphia early Monday morning.
Officers were called to the 3300 block of D Street after reports of the stabbing at about 2:30 a.m.
A male victim was rushed from the scene to Temple University Hospital with stab wounds to his neck. He later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators are trying to determine a motive for the fatal attack. No arrests have been made.

During the struggle, Vanore says, the man tried to take one of the officer's nightsticks, and he also reportedly tried to grab a knife at one point.
One of the officers fired a single shot, striking the man in the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The police homicide and internal affairs units are investigating. The man's name has not been released.

Youth, 17, shot to death
A 17-year-old boy was shot to death shortly after 7 last night at Newkirk Street and Susquehannah Avenue, North Philadelphia.
Police, responding to a report of a man with a gun, found the youth lying in a pool of blood with his cell phone near him.
He was pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital at 7:43 p.m. Lt. Philip Riehl said family members told police that the boy left the house with money, but no money was found on him.
His identity was not immediately disclosed.

Police Investigate Nicetown Homicide
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3)
Philadelphia police are investigating shooting that left a man dead in the city's Nicetown section.
Authorities say at about 4:30 a.m. police received a report of a shooting in the 4500 block of N. Bouvier Street. When officers arrived on scene they found a male down on the street with multiple gunshot wounds to the head and chest.
The unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are what prompted the shooting and are searching for suspects.
Anyone with information should contact Philadelphia police.
