After '56 the rear 'solid' axle with leaf-spring suspension was dropped, in favor of a 'semi-independent' POS that utilized looong sway bars, and coil springs. Pure junk! The ride was improved, but handling and load-carrying capacity suffered greatly.
In a word, it was crap. Ford meanwhile held its lead with the tried and true F-Seies trucks, which still outsell Chevvy's by a wide margin! The Fuck Uke Ranger proves the point with its 'live' rear axle, leaf-springs, and stiffer ride!
Can you spell Government Motors?

If you combine Chevrolet + GMC they blow Ford rite outta the water. The only diff between a Chevrolet and GMC are trim items and
identity badges. They come off the same assembly line. Mon, Wed, and Fri they make Chevrolets, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday they make GMC.
GM doesn't make a big thing over the obviously false advertising Ford does, GM is perfectly satisfied with its "Longest Lasting, most Dependable truck you can buy"
which is totally true.

The money America's taxpayers poured inta GM was shameful! And what have we gotten for all that? Nothing! You drive a Government Motors product...good for you!
Perhaps Uncle Sam shoulda let 'em fail, istead of bailing their asses out. And while it's true that Ford has used false advertising (milege figures especially), your Holy High GM is as guilty as the next manufacturer who has trumped up slogans and numbers designed to fool the foolish inta plunking down inflated dollars for their products!
Remember, you opened this can o' worms, get your fork ready...

I think we have several thousand working class people who still have a job and are paying taxes. Thats better than nothing.
Let em fail?? Isn't that what the Repugs wanted? Are you comin out the closet Yook?
Plunking down yer money for the longest lasting and most dependable product is not a foolish thing to do.
Fork ready?? OK who bailed out Chrysler, Penn Central, Reading, Central of New Jersey, Lehigh and Hudson River, Erie-Lackawanna, Lockeed, etc??

Uncle Sam obviously. I still wonder about the sale of Conrail, for whom I toiled... By the time it went public, was healthy, making money, and standing on stronger legs, and yet it was broken in pieces and sold off ta NS and CSX...
The deal with 'creating' jobs...good paying jobs...ya gotta have industries. The biggest, most influential corporations don't invest here. We don't make steel, but for small 'specialty' mills... Most heavy machinery is made outside these borders.
General Electric, builder of your 'dream machine' locomotives have parts made in India, China, Mexico, Canada, and wait for it...Russia!
Very few good paying jobs were created by most of that bailout money... The bulk of which found its way into big investment banks coffers. Now we're s'posed ta forgive and forget that role in the financial meltdown?
Nor do they create shit here. And you think I'm asleep, or rich, or a fuckin' Repug?
Stop it! I've paid my dues working for the railroad, CNJ, CR, BN, and BNSF...and Uncle Warren's buyout bungle. Glad to have done my part, I'd do it again, but I'll be 67 this month...and I think it's time I get ta enjoy some of that money RRB trust board has 'invested' wherever.
Maybe when you get around ta retiring yours will be there tu.
