TACOMA, Wash. -- One person was killed when an Amtrak train collided with a pickup truck on Joint Base Lewis-McChord Monday evening.
The incident occurred approximately 19 miles south of Tacoma near Solo Point Beach just after 7 p.m.
Amtrak spokesperson Vernae Graham said the involved train, the Cascade 509, was headed form Seattle to Eugene. It was not known how fast the train was traveling at the time, but the track speed on that stretch is 60 mph, the spokesperson said.
A person inside the pickup truck was fatally injured. The victim has not been identified, and it was not immediately clear how many passengers were aboard the truck.
No injuries were reported aboard the train, which was carrying 153 passengers and four crew members at the time.
The cause of the crash has not been determined, and the investigation is ongoing.
...and another! They (commuter train-operated over 2LARRCO) just smacked a semi rig at the Mukilteo ferry terminal! Thought they separated the roadway from the old grade crossing? Guess not!
More details later...from Gus. Melonas.
