It lasts about two weeks and its over. Zillions of them everywhere, then they die off and there are piles of them everywhere. Worst I ever saw it was in TQCOTW sometime back when. Inbound trains coming from the (former) Silk Stocking District would be covered with them, necessitating headlight and windshield cleaning before departing.

My yard in my home town back in Illinois sprouted one in every square inch. Birds dropping dead from gorging themselves....
The first time I ever heard or seen a cicada was my
2 trips to the Knoxville Nationals in 1990/91, mid-
August in Iowa. Maybe they come out later in Iowa
but this article claims the cicadas are going to crawling
out of the gound on the East coast any day now.
Be interested in what our EC correspondents have to
say. I'm concerned about Snippy because of his rural
existense.
