Deadly train accident halts ferry, Sounder service at Edmonds

The freight train came to a halt after the deadly accident.
EDMONDS, Wash. - A northbound freight train struck and killed a man on the railroad tracks at Edmonds, bringing ferry and train service to an abrupt halt in the area.
The victim was struck on the railroad tracks at about 7:25 a.m. near the intersection of Sunset Avenue and Caspers Street, a few blocks north of the Edmonds ferry terminal.
Sgt. Mark Marsh of the Edmonds police said the train's crew saw the man on the tracks and repeatedly blew their horns to warn him, but he did not get out of the way.
The freight train came to a stop after the accident, blocking access to and from the busy Edmonds ferry terminal just as it was about to unload cars and passengers who had boarded at Kingston. Ferry service is halted indefinitely on the Kingston-Edmonds route.
The accident also has delayed the 7:15 a.m. Sounder train from Everett and Amtrak service. Further delays are possible.
Marsh said it could take two hours or more to complete the investigation and move the train away from the site.
