TWC was actually telling people to call their Congressman to prevent the loss of a "life saving" service. Corse, yer Congressmans aide is gonna tell ya that they don't meddle in private company affairs, and anyway, your federal tax dollars go to the NOAA and its National Weather Service. NWS maintains a network of transmitters around the US to broadcast timely weather information and warnings. NOAA has a web site that live streams data. They own the satellites and radar stations.
In fact all TWC does is repeat this Free NWS information at a healthy charge for their time. Now, ya haffta wait for it if you happen to want to check
the weather when they are broadcasting one of their TV shows. Plus, if you have DirecTv you probably have the internet. 24hrs a day 7 days aweek you can check the weather on the internet.
Nice thing about it is that DirecTv has replaced TWC with a channel called WeatherNation. WN is just like TWC was in the beginning. All they show is weather.
And, doesn't cost as much as TWC. This may keep my bill from DirecTv from increasing.

If you are truly worried about storm coverage, run up to radio shack, or order a battery powered NOAA weather alert radio online. After you program your area code into it you can be pretty much assured that even if the storm gets bad enuff to take out electricity in your area that you will get timely information about the weather.
