Those Philadelphia row homes with the flat black tar paper roofs are like fucking ovens. Someone better check to see if Freddie needs to be flipped.

All they need now is MS Train Simulator and they can pretend they are in an old school BN engine....

What would be even better would be a ex Santa Flush reject with out arm rests, cement hard seats, and a B/O air. wink

Only got to 88 on my thermometer
today. Supposedly 90-100 is possible
for Wednesday. It's well after midnight
and not even a hint of a cool breeze.
Looks like sleepin' above the covers
will be in order tonight.

Poetic justice demands one of BN's finest black tops. biggrin

And now for today's forecast. Brizland weather ?

FOR TODAY AND TONIGHT, SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE ALONG THE FOOTHILLS AND OVER THE NORTHEAST PLAIN THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH THE EARLY EVENING. THE STORMS WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING HAIL UP TO ONE INCH IN DIAMETER, STRONG WINDS AND HEAVY RAIN. IN ADDITION, A FEW STORMS COULD PRODUCE VERY LARGE HAIL GREATER THAN 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER AND A COUPLE OF TORNADOES ESPECIALLY ALONG A CONVERGENCE AREA EAST AND SOUTHEAST OF DENVER ACROSS PORTIONS OF EASTERN ADAMS, EASTERN ARAPAHOE, ELBERT, LINCOLN AND WASHINGTON COUNTIES. NORTHWEST FLOW ALOFT COMBINED WITH SOUTHEASTERLY LOW LEVEL FLOW AND A MODERATELY UNSTABLE AIRMASS WILL CREATE A FAVORABLE ENVIRONMENT FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM MID AFTERNOON THROUGH THE EARLY EVENING HOURS IN THE FOOTHILLS AND OVER THE NORTHEAST PLAINS. IN THE MOUNTAINS SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS WILL ALSO DEVELOP BY AFTERNOON AND WILL PRODUCE BRIEF HEAVY RAIN, SMALL HAIL AND GUSTY WINDS. FOR THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY, THE THREAT OF THUNDERSTORMS AND POSSIBLE SEVERE WEATHER WILL CONTINUE THURSDAY AS ANOTHER WEAK COLD FRONT AND UPPER LEVEL WEATHER DISTURBANCE MOVE ACROSS THE AREA. ABUNDANT LOW LEVEL MOISTURE COUPLED WITH STRONG DAYTIME HEATING AND ENHANCED UPSLOPE FLOW WILL PROVIDE FAVORABLE CONDITIONS FOR THUNDERSTORMS CAPABLE OF LARGE HAIL AND LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL. A FEW STORMS OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF THE PALMER DIVIDE TO THE SOUTH AND SOUTHEAST OF DENVER COULD GENERATE A BRIEF TORNADO OR TWO LATE THURSDAY AFTERNOON OR EVENING. FRIDAY AND BEYOND, THE CHANCE FOR THUNDERSTORMS WILL GRADUALLY DIMINISH AS HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE GREAT BASIN SHIFTS EASTWARD, BRINGING WARMER AND DRIER AIR OVER THE REGION. SPOTTER ACTIVATION WILL LIKELY BE REQUIRED AFTER 2 PM TODAY.

Are those old school BN engines with the black roofs worse than the solid black units of say...Norfolk Southern or Illinois Central? Just curious to see how good I have it.

You'd have to point towards, Piznipes for that answer....Just feel the top of the roof when your inside the cab and you will know what the shit power Im dealin with....

Im guessin that storm you got commin your way, Q, is the one they're talkin about headin this way later in the week....Was out runnin errands in my truck just now and it didnt feel that bad.....Didnt use the A/C (much)....You gotta have a tolerance for this or you're a dead man!

Shit power? The IC got a shitload of old BN SD40-2's and loved the black roof soooo much that they extended it all the way dwn to the rails. But as an added bonus, they took off those pesky dynamic brakes so that the hood would be aerodynamically clean, without those unsightly protruding blisters that house the resistors. Then they got the gall to tell us to only use dynamic brakes and throttle modulation for controlling our trains.

Yep, got all the creature comforts. Hot in the summer, cold and drafty in the winter. What else could anyone ask for?

Summer in the PNW. Finally. The ol' mercury hit 98 at SeaTac airport yesterday.

And right here in town, it's like 93. Sure that ain't really hot by comparison ta Death Valley, or Phoenix, or Salt Lake City... But by our standards it's downright uncomfortable.

And NOT being a Sun worshipper, I don't like it... But I gotta deal with it. Complaining helps!

Whatever works...

It's those nighttime temps that are
of most significence. Hit 93 on my
thermometer today. 80 at 8pm.
No cooling to that wonderful temp
that makes sleeping with covers
possible. We have a big box fan setup
in our bedroom window and it helps
out a lot. I turn it off about 2am and
however cool it is what we get.
Last night it was barely bearable, tonight
may be unbearable. Checking through
the world weather report, noticed Bombay
had a high of 89 and a low of 80.
80 fucking degrees at night! Can't fathom
those conditions.

Its all that heat that was absorbed in the ground radiating at night....You learn that an A/C is your friend....

When we lived in northern Cal for a little while, summers would get hotter than balls....I used a sheet as a blanket and a box fan on high aimed right at me....Worked all the time....

Caught a bit of a break as the onshore
flow happened overnight. Got a good
nights sleep and the day was nearly 20
degrees below yesterday's high. 78 felt
like 68. We can accomodate these temps.
I wouldn't be whining about excessive heat if
we in the NW all were equipped with AC
and used to this shit year after year.
But traditionally we get only several spells
of unseasonal heat and we get through it
by being unconfortable for a few nights.
Not enough for everyone to install an AC.
The airtight stove or heater will always be
the essential purchase for anyone living
in these parts.
