You BNSF guys are going to be seeing some of our CN stuff, and they do have hot plates and micro-waves. Just be grateful we are sending you our SD75's and keeping those POS SD50W's and SD60W's to ourselves. No air conditioning though...

We don't want those fucking things! I could just see some of these tards cooking mac and cheese, and other shit instead of doing their fucking job.

BTW, that CN West RTC that I talked to yesterday morning is a moron. As if he has never heard of a BN Taconite train running through there. DUH!

Ahahahaah....Bucket, you fuckin crack me up bro...

Mac and cheese......

The last time we had one on the point was one of those old Amtrak style engines....Good unit but we couldnt get the HOT to talk to the EOT so we had to swap out the power...I was kind of glad since my seat was in the "low rider" postion where I rather have it in the "up and at em" setting....

It was quite common for these parts to have old CN engines roamin around when we were power short.....Briz doesnt speak French though....

Briz, I hate it when you get on there and the seat is stuck in the low position and no matter what you do, you can't get it any higher. Especially on those piece of crap desktop engines. Hate 'em.

Ya gotta make sure ya tune the lead unit's radio is set ta the correct channel. 'Specially anything outa Canada. Do a radio check, and the replying voice comes back... "Oui, bein sur mon ami!"

And the Mexican units? "Ola, ola..?" And they answer in English...

Yeah, every day is a new day for them down in Homo-Weird. Be grateful you don't have to have them dispatch you for 300 miles. It gets downright painful sometimes.

I think it's really strange how big and powerful the
railroads have always been but somehow the locomotive
builders somehow seem to call the shots. Of course
we are entering an unprecidented time in history when
somebody now cares how much a locomotive pollutes.
Fuck...it only took about a 150 years but now they are
on to us. The locomotive manufactures are delighted
with the fact that every railroad will have to update their
rosters. Cause and effect. From a psychic point of view,
making mega plans for 2012 and beyond may not be
realised. We forget about alot of the changes that are coming
our way and fucking locomotives probably fall into a very
low category. I always find it interesting when "they" project
current ways into the 2015-2020-2030 year eras. It's really
projecting a false sense of security.

My gut sez that those 40-2s coming back says an awful lot about cost of 'replacement' power.

Not ta mention that ALL units built after 2006 must meet Tier-2 emission standards [EPA], which are more stringent than anything prior. Locomotives are still considered NOT major polluters [unburned particulates, Co2, CO, NOx, etc.] as are most 'off-road' diesel powered vehicles.

The units reassigned have been re-leased by FURX, and others, who own 'em outright, and third party lessors. Yep.

Although most are over 35 years old...and older, and worn out in most cases, when we check 'em over...they're still good for an honest 3000 ponies. And if you'll notice...they're running all over the system!

That's gotta tell ya somethin' about those old two-strokers!

The SD40-2 is quite the warrior. Heard on the scanner
just a day or two ago being identified as the the lead
unit of a westbound Z train through Monroe WA. I know
the topic of the SD40-2 has come up numerous times
on this forum but there doesn't seem to be a locomotive
better suited for the riggers of getting trains over Stevens
Pass. If I could ever figure out how to get some of my
video footage on the internet, you all would surely enjoy
hearing and seeing a quartet of SD40-2's getting the signal
off the siding at East Scenic and an 8th notch assult into the
West Portal of the Cascade tunnel.

Uke, are all the old units exempt from the emission standard? Did they have to retrofit anything?

Every SD-40 I ever get smokes like a bastard, but is a pullin' son-of-a-bitch!

EPA mandates the 'standards' Bucket, and in answer ta yer query... Yes. The older the unit... the more they're allowed ta pollute.

The fleet of SD's on BNsf is a mixed bag at best...and damn near worn out at worst. The latest series SDs, the ACe, utilizes the same two-stroke technology made famous by Detroit Diesel, and Winton Engines Co., which was the original engine supplier for EMD in the 1930s, until General Motors bought 'em out, absorbed them and Electro Motive.

There's been much research done, and improvements made towards reliability, longer parts life, interchangeability, and most important...fuel efficiency.

Every last drop of fuel MUST produce power, AND produce fewer pollutants.

GE may be on top in the efficiency score, but are they really clean? Do they pollute less than EMD? It's the most important question as we get deeper into the 21st century. And one which no answer will suffice.

Uke sez "Shut 'em down. Don't idle for more'n an hour at a time!" Savin' fuel is savin' yer job!

Pollution happens. Do yer part ta clean it up!

G'night!
