Those critters were the backbone of the WC, and when they were maintained (are you listening CN?) they worked like a champ. For whatever reason though, those F45's we got from the Santa Fe didn't pull nearly as well as the straight SD 45's did, even though they were mechanically and electrically the same.

Remember when they used to wash the windows at the roundhouse, as well as change the trash bags?

I remember when we used to railroad and our input was sought and appreciated.

BD, we used to get those engines on run-through power and we'd still go dead. They pulled good until we went dead. I think it was the dispatching and not the engines.

Just how old are you, anyway? I mean, if Snippy doesn't remember those days.

I started out firing steam, Cy. And then I went ot the WC which was a bit behind the Class 1's in terms of treating their employees like liabilities.

Man, could we move tonnage...

The few -2s left at Interbay, are either repaints [Orange/green] and are the newest of the breed. The FURX lettered units are being slowly repaired, and returned to the lessor.

Rumor has it that we'll be rid of all but a handful by year's end. There's a few LUGO/LUBO SD40s on property, but their status is questionable...

Stored. Dead. Drained. Awaiting dispo. Maybe we'll be stealing parts from 'em soon...

There wasn't any coal back when Snippy started...

Looks like wood in that tinder to me, Bucket.

Let me guess, Snippy, did you guys have ChemTowels? We did, some of the time, anyway.

I'll bet those old boys complained about bad wood the way the newer old boys complained about bad coal. And bad water. And they were probably right.

Any info on what's in store for all the old EMDs under the 44th Avenue viaduct?

Are you talking about those SD-9's? I really don't know what they do with that stuff. They have been there for some time, and were there today. If it's the same ones I'm thinking about, the east unit was renumber 1722...

A few years back, they sold 4 or 5 of those SD-9's, (probably built in the early 50's) to the Dakota Western. It's a "mom and Pop" R/R in Mitchell, SD. They just do some switching, and light transfers.

Yeah, those are the ones. I took a couple of "home run" shots from the viaduct with my 18x zoom and also saw 1400 and some switchers alongside just south of the diesel house. Funny thing is, the afternoon I got back I saw a GP15 (1492?) at work in Springfield yard.
