Several Injured In SEPTA Trolley Car Crash

PHILADELPHIA (CBS3/AP) Three trolley cars were involved in an accident in an underground station in Center City, but no serious injuries were immediately reported.

The accident happened at about 4:00 p.m. underground at 13th and Market Streets near City Hall.

SEPTA officials said two empty trolleys on the Green Line were stopped when a third trolley, with seven passengers onboard, rear-ended the idle trolleys.

A total of 10 people, including three children and three SEPTA trolley operators, were injured in the collision. Fire department officials said all those injured were listed in stable condition.

"It's still under investigation, there's no derailment involved here, nobody came off the tracks, it's a minor banging incident trolley in front," SEPTA spokesman Francis Kelly said.

Trolley service resumed within several hours of the accident.

It was the second day in a row that there were problems with underground trolleys in Philadelphia. On Monday, eight people were sickened by smoke when overhead electrical wires came down and started a fire in a tunnel.
