Red Sox Trade Manny Ramirez To Dodgers

Read: Dan Roche's Update To Manny Saga

BOSTON (CBS) The Boston Red Sox have traded Manny Ramirez to the Los Angeles Dodgers, CBS  Station WBZ-TV in Boston has learned.

The trade announcement was made Thursday just as the team's deadline happened. The trade is part of a three-way deal between the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Red Sox and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Boston will get Pittsburgh outfielder Jason Bay. In exchange, the Red Sox will send left fielder Damien Moss and pitcher Craig Hansen to Pittsburgh.

In addition, the Dodgers are giving third-baseman Andy LaRoche and right-hander Bryan Morris to the Pirates.

The Red Sox will pay out all of the remaining approximate $7 million on Ramirez's contract.

There had been talk all week of the Red Sox trying to unload the disgruntled outfielder to either Los Angeles or to the Florida Marlins.

Ramirez increased his criticism of the Red Sox on Wednesay, saying the team didn't deserve him. But Boston, aware of the slugger's ability and his role on two championship teams, wanted to get a player or players who could help in the final two months of the season.

On Sunday, Ramirez criticized the Red Sox, telling ESPNdeportes, "I'm tired of them. They're tired of me."

Later Sunday, he said in the clubhouse, "What I said was, if the Red Sox think they can find a trade that's going to make their team better and both sides are going to be happy, I'm going to agree. But they cannot find a trade. It's something simple. It's no big deal."

The often contentious relationship between Ramirez and the Red Sox included him requesting trades after the 2005 and 2006 season.

Two days earlier, he was scratched from the starting lineup when he said his right knee was sore. MRIs later that day on both knees "came back fine," manager Terry Francona said.

Ramirez knocked down team traveling secretary Jack McCormick in the visitors' clubhouse before a game in Houston when he asked for tickets, the Providence Journal reported.

And he told the Boston Herald during the All-Star break he wanted to know what his situation was and he didn't want the club to "tell you one thing and behind your back they do another thing." Red Sox owner John Henry said he found that "personally offensive."

Manny as a Dodger? Great move for L.A.
He wants a change and got it. Don't think
he'll disapoint but we'll all have to see.
The N.L. West is up for grabs and Manny
could very well make a difference. Traditionally,
I haven't been a big Dodger fan. I like Joe Torre
and Manny. If L.A. gets into the post season, I'll
be pulling for them.

I have always looked upon the Dodgers as the Yankees of the NL. This changes nothing.....I will be pulling for them to fall on their faces.

Manny Ramirez is trying to fit in with new teammates, but the Dodgers still didn't have enough offense against Arizona.

The L.A. Dodgers are nothing like the Yankees.
They seem to go about things in a hard to recognize
manner. Seems a championship could be had this season
and they make a move. Like I say, I'm not a Dodger fan
per say, and I've ignored them for so long I don't have
a clue who's on the team these days. Traditionally
I root for the American League in the post season but
I've been known to flipflop on that occasionally. If the
Dodgers start making a lot of noise, I will investigate.
