1975 - The First Planetary Celebration was held to promote awareness of mans global responsibility.

1978 - In Toronto, Keith Richards (Rolling Stones) pled guilty to heroin possession. He was given a one-year suspended sentence.

1988 - The John Fogerty vs. Fantasy Records case began. Fantasy claimed that Fogerty had plagiarized his own song "Run Through The Jungle" when he wrote "The Old Man Down The Road."

1995 - In Cleveland, OH, Chrissie Hynde (Pretenders) sang the national anthem in Game 3 of the World Series.

I've always thought the Fogerty story and how he had to fight Fantasy Records and fell out with his band, including his brother Tom, was one of the sad stories of rock n' roll.

1980 - Paul Kantner of Jefferson Starship suffers a brain hemorrhage during a recording session. After 15 days in the hospital he recovers fully.


1992 - Pearl Jam sets a new record for first week sales when the LP "Vs." sold 950,000 copies.

1998 - A U.S. federal judge refused to issue an injunction against the sale of MP3. The device is used to play music downloaded from the Internet. The Recording Industry Association of America had brought the case to court.

APRIL 12, 1966 Dead Man's Curve

On April 12, 1966, 25-year-old musician Jan Berry turned onto Whittier southbound from Sunset in his Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and hit a parked truck at about 90 MPH.

Berry pulled out to pass a slow-moving vehicle and slammed full-speed into a truck that was unexpectedly parked at the curb. The Paramedics that arrived on the scene thought Berry was dead. Checking his vital signs, they found he was alive, and rushed him to the UCLA Hospital. There they found Jan's brain had been severely damaged and even numerous major brain surgeries could not completely repair the damage.. Not expected to live, Berry was in a coma for months and awoke unable walk, speak and was paralyzed on the right side.
