Last night I had to run my two units to the roundhouse to get refueled. The leader was bone dry and dead, the trailer dragged the train into town for us to recrew and refuel.
The leader took 4800 gallons, the trailer took 2000 gallons. Figuring diesel @ $4.00/gal, I watched the railroad in 30 short minutes spend $27,200. Our little trip to the House of Uke cost $906.67 a minute, not counting labor. In 30 minutes the railroad spent on 2 units a little over a quarter of what I am going to make this year.
I had never really stopped to think about that before. There is some BIG money being spent in this here business of ours.

Some people say I have a bad attitude. Those people are stupid.
I saw it in a notice where CSX stated they were paying $2.50 for a gallon of Bunker C Diesel. (Don't think yer Duramax would run too good on that stuff tho). Thats a lot cheeper than the $4.50 stuff at the gas station.
We must remember that Black Dog works for a quality outfit that loves their employees. If you don't believe it, just drop BD a line and he'll tell you all about it. HH RULES!
Oh, and BD, that's a fair amount more than I've ever made. EVER.
