A Norfolk Southern employee fell from a railroad trestle Monday night into the Vermilion River.
The man separated his shoulder and suffered some scrapes, police Chief Robert Kish said.
A nearby boater pulled the man to safety.
The railroad worker was replacing a railroad tie, Norfolk Southern spokesman Rudy Husband said. He would not identify the employee, but said the man suffered "non-life-threatening injuries."
Blackdog, did you ever have to ride the shoves out onto the ore docks? There used to be lots of guy falling off. The BN docks in Allouez are about 250 feet high, but we don't shove out there anymore.
No, the worst I ever did was ride the wrong side over the Nemadgi river bridge from our litle yard at Ambridge to Saunders. There is a walkway on one side but I wasn't thinking and rode on the other side where it's a straight drop of about 80 feet.

Sounds like the Susquehanna River Bridge on the Philly Sub.

Saunders to Allouez. You can't step off on that bridge, since there is NO walkway. I've ridden shoves across the Nemadji River in the dark, and it's quite spooky...
