We had the worst spring since weather records have been kept in the Great Pacific Northwest. It wasn't until the last of May when things started to turn around. I usually have most of garden planted by the end of April. It's hard to plant seeds or transplants when the soil is mud and the skies are dark grey day after day or the night time temps are still hovering around freezing. My garden this year is a "half garden" as many things never got around to be planted. Timing is everything when it comes to getting a harvest. We've had some good stretches of typical summer weather this July and early August but this last half of August has me concerned as we've had two rounds of very wet and cool weather, something you might see sometime after Labor Day. While it still seems likely that I might get some sort of harvest, this screwed up weather is really raising havoc with the food supply not just in my back yard but in many places around the country. It's a feast or famine, flood or drought. Dealing with the extremes seems to be the norm.
