UP must have theirs set lower.  Heres a UP getting a velccity penalty application.  Hes was moving along pretty quick, obviously a little too quick for the computer.

As long as they put their headlights on bright just before opposing trains got to them, just to acknowledge their position, it is ok, Bucket.

Too bad it says that this train went into emergency for the most common thing to happen to autoracks...low air hoses on a road crossing. 
Had there been a mic on the engine, you'd a heard "Boss-O-Train" curse like a trooper that his ass was about to come unstuck from that toad stool.
When the slack came in like that you'd a heard him wail like a Banshee to the Man on high about possibly having ta carry some steel!!

As I recall, UP's overspeeds were set right at 70, but this was 15 years ago.

On our little outfit, our "Boss-O-Trains" would be able to sleep right through the brake application and only start to rouse from their slumber after the gentle rocking ceased.  They would yawn and stretch, just like a puppy waking up from it's nap.  They would look around for a little while, maybe smack their lips a couple of times, and then when they remembered where they were and notice that there isn't a red signal in front of them they would look to the engineers side and interrupt his reading of "Penthouse Forum Letters" and ask "Why are we stopped?"

Pipes, I say that UP engineer followed proper procedure when the train went into emergency and by his skillful handling of the train by prescribed methods after an undesired emergency application, he prevented a catastrophe. But he couldn't have done it if he hadn't had his ditchlights on bright!!!!!!!!!!!

I trained with a hogger who thought it was more important to read the comp screen after the train dumped than to bail off...."emergency from EOT...huh?". If he had of been the hogger on that UP train it would have made one hell of a video.
