Terre Haute - Officials say an railroad company employee died after he was struck by a tanker car that derailed in Terre Haute.

The Vigo County Coroner's office says 42-year-old Philip T. Myers of Clay City was pronounced dead Wednesday at Terre Haute Regional Hospital of blunt force trauma to the head.

Indiana Rail Road Co. spokesman Chris Rund says Myers was part of a two-man crew working on the property of Tangent Rail Products, which makes railroad ties.

Rund says company officials are trying to determine why the tanker car derailed as it was being pushed slowly down a railroad spur.

Rund says he believes Myers' death is the company's first employee fatality. Indiana Rail Road operates a 500 miles of track in Indiana and Illinois.

That territory was once Soo Line, then CP Rail, so he went to the Indiana Railroad when they bought it out a couple of years ago. Such a shame.
