Just curious how plentiful sweet corn is in your locale? With our lousy spring weather and very late plantings, sweet corn is at a premium. If our first freeze of the fall doesn't come any time soon, there could be some sort of harvest. The Japanese farmer that brings us corn every year has been forced to ration just an ear or two to his regular customers at this point in time. The corn I've tried so far this year seems to lack that super sweetness that I recall in years past. In the couple county area near me, sweet corn is every where and in abundance and usually goes for the 8-10 ears for a dollar range in a normal year. I'm going to have to make field trip and see for myself how good or bad the corn scene is. Since everything else in the world is going to shit, it wouldn't surprise me bit that sweet corn is now on the endangered list.

I just heard a radio news story on the lack of pumpkins on the east coast due to wet weather in Maine or wherever they grow a lot of pumpkins. Pumpkins need 120 days or so to produce which means a planted seed in mid May needs to have the right conditions to sprout and grow. No way Jose in my part of the country as early June was the first opportunity. This old fellow that brings my firewood each year said his melon's didn't produce at all this year. Total wipeout. Between the weather and my wife passing away, the garden and the blueberry bushes and fruit trees have delivered a decent harvest despite my fretting. The Indian Summer continues here for a few days more.

My jalapeno plants somehow survived Ike....Of course, I havent watered them in about a week so they are lookin rather yellow....
The weirdest thing was that I left a small ashtray outside and it somehow stayed put....However, 2 houses down, the roof on some poor bastards house caved in....WTF?

It was odd....If you walk out my backdoor and look to your left, you will see many houses with tarp on their roofs....Even the dude behind me got some shingle damage....
I walked all along my roof the other day and checked every fuckin shingle and nothin looks out of place....Walked through the attic and inspected all of the plywood underneath said shingles and nothin.....
It was almost like I had painted a big X on my door with lambs blood before the archangel flew over......Weird....

Perhaps you have a lucky Jupiter transit going on. Jupiter is the fastest mover of the outer planets and by the next time disaster hits you may not be so lucky. Good to hear you came out OK.
