Freddy was the Chief Instructor Flight Engineer.....that is why you see the same plane 5-6 times trying to find the runway.

He is flying a local, meaning the pilots are practicing their landings. I believe Wright Pat is one of the last bases to have the C-141. Most of them have been recycled into Budwieser cans and shorts for Snippy.

It took weeks to clean the skidmark I laid in my jeans that fateful afternoon.

I love how the (UP) north end types talk about Napavine like its something hardcore. I tell them about the Cascades or Donner they shut up real quick. Besides all they run is intermodal and garbage up that thing.

I would guess why the Napavine is a bit different than any
other grade is that trains aren't given the horsepower
necessary to navagate it. Most trains that have to navagate
a summit are given X amount of horsepower. When the
majority of trains hit the Napavine, they have been traversing
flat territory for 75-80 miles and then they have to hope they
can make it over the hill. It's been a dispatchers nightmare
ever since I can remember. Trains with barely enough horse
power to get over the hill means things slow down to the point
of stalling. Yeah I agee that it's not Soldier Summit but it is
a significant bump in the road.

Going up is not that big of a deal. Coming down is what seperates the men from the boys. The (UP) Portland service unit is famous for under powering under dynamic braking everything. Coming east out of Hinkle even on that slight grade with two units and a 14,000 ton grainer with two SD90's is tough to stop.

How so, bob? I would just feather the independant and if that didnt work, place the reverser into reverse and lock up the traction motors....

I heard of old Conrail guys doing something like that. When they were taking a loaded train off the moutain and it went into emgency, rather have the conductor go back and tie 50 handbrakes, they would throw it in reverse, and then notch 4 and let the train pump back up.

Now that I think about it, thats one of things I'd have to see done before I believe it.

Pssst. Believe it. Difference is Brizy's ruining locos that are moving, I'm talking about the lesser of two evils after you have stopped. Shove back against it while the brakes are pumping off. Those 40 lb PC switches throw a wrinkle into it, too. And WiERIS will get you fired.

I would use the MU cable to send important messages back to the trailing units and maybe have it transport me a sandwich and a cold drink up to the lead unit while I wait for the air to restore.

Ricky Gates said the drinks were always up front. No need for MU Transport cables.

Nappy is really startin to piss me off.....

I guess people around here cant take a fuckin joke anymore....

When Briz ran Cajon, he never had any problems....What HHB said, goin up is a piece of cake...Goin down is what makes you realize what kind of a "pair" you have....

In all fairness, Briz never had to lock up the TM's....Briz also never had to plug a train for overspeed down the "hill" either....

Briz has had his fare share of fuck ups in his time but he ALWAYS respected the mountain!

What Led Zep once sung, "Standing on the fields and the mountains of dreams- telling myself, its not as hard, hard as it seems"

Fuck all you guys! I'm going to a place where I am wanted.

A place where the signals are always clear. Where the managers respect the engineers, the dispatchers answer the radio on the first buzz, and payroll is never fucked up!

I'm going to www.yardlimits.com where the folks are friendly! Follow me! All you fellows can join as long as you are nice and leave your poisonous attitudes here!!

Why not, they already know your name.  I'll be watching for your picture and vital statistics on-line.
