Uke is saddened by the drift this thread has taken of late. So much so that Uke may have to resort to stronger tactics.

Perhaps a return to his Roman Catholic roots. Where prayer to Christ, God, Saints Peter, Paul, Luke, and John, and The Father, Son, and Holy Dumb Fuck obviously did not help!

A friend of mine did that. Back on the old Coos Bay branch he was approaching a crossing were some dumb bitch got her kids stroller stuck on the crossing. Rather than grab the kid and run she sat there and tried to get the stroller loose. Well my buddy was coming down a decent grade, wet tracks (Its Oregon) and almost all his cars were loaded chip cars. Anyway he plugs it and keeps sliding towards the woman and her kid. So as a last resort he goes for a "hostler stop" throwing it reverse and going to run 8. He said the noise that came from that engine was the most terrible thing he ever heard, but he got it stopped about 10 feet from the woman. Finally she got the kid free and walked away like nothing happend.

Bob, you made me think of an old engineer who got them stopped short of a truck loaded with slab steel, he called it a "Hillbilly Stop", but he got them stopped, with a tremendous amount of slack action, which didn't derail anything.

Uke, ever had an engine in the shop that someone reversed to stop and what did it do to it?
