I have that concert on DVD. It was at Altamont, and the Hells Angels provided "Security". There was a part in there where it got a little hairy when Jagger started bitching at the Angels.

Keith Richards said "Fuck this" and went back to the dressing room. The Angels told him to get out and play, and he said no. Then they threatened to kill him. Richards played his best concert ever!

I think I've read that Bill Graham, among others, tried real hard to talk the Stones out of hiring the Hell's Angels for security but the Stones simply didn't believe that the local chapter could be that vicious and ignored the advice. They'd known the British Hell's Angels, who were probably wanna-be's, compared to the California branch.
