Reflecting a sharply worsening economy, U.S. railroad carload traffic was down 10.1% in November and intermodal traffic dropped 7.9%--"by far the largest monthly declines since we stated keeping track of monthly traffic in 1997 and probably since well before then," according to John Gray, senior vice president of the Association of American Railroads. Seventeen of the 19 major carload categories showed declines in November.
No wonder the "F" word is being heard!
