Woman, stuck on tracks, dives from car
NEWARK - A Maryland woman was hospitalized tonight after she dove out of her car just seconds before it was struck by a train in Bergen County, police told the Star-Ledger.

The 29-year-old woman from Rockville, Md., was driving on Blanch Avenue in Norwood at 6:36 p.m. when she tried to turn right onto Broad Street, according to borough police. She mistakenly drove onto CSX's West Shore train tracks and her 2007 Nissan Altima became stuck.

Moments later, as a freight train barreled down the tracks, the woman jumped out of her car and landed hard on the ground, injuring her legs and hips, police said. She was taken to Englewood Hospital and Medical Center in Englewood, where she was listed in stable condition.

Blanch Avenue and Broad Street were shut down for cleanup until 9:15 p.m., police said. The train continued its journey around the same time.

The woman's name was not available yesterday, police said.
