There is someone in the world I know that listened to Brave New Waves besides me. Maybe Steam did.
I got about 500 shows on tape from 1985 to 1995. After 1995 I still record the show on vhs tape and
just edited out the stuff I liked which formed my "Free Music Series" tapes which stopped at #196.
Working at the bridge nights I had Brave New Waves on. My JVC ghetto blaster picked up Vancouver BC
easily. You had to up in the darkest hours of the night to listen to this show which I was. Brent Bambury
was the fast talking brainy host that seemed to know everything about the lastest music never before played.
I can appreciate that. Brent left BNW for CBC TV gig. Then it was Patti Schmidt. I really miss that show.

I first heard of Nash the Slash in 1981 on a CBC AM radio show called "NEON". Which made me go out and
try to find his LP's. Very hard to find mainly because nobody heard Nash the Slash except me and also finding
records pressed in Canada in the early 1980's just 25 miles from the Border in the USA was really hard.
If the record store owner never heard of it he's not going to stock it. Thankfully a record store chain in the GPNW
called "Cellaphane Square" came to be and full of "Used Records". Thats where you got a good chance of finding
Canadian Imports as the Canadian music friends like to visit Bellingham and trade in their records. So thats how
I found a couple Nash the Slash LPs. I would have never guessed that Nash the Slash live was this cool...but it is.

I may be one the very few audiophiles in the world that has cassette tapes live recordings of CBC AM NEON radio shows
from Feb 81 until show cancelled late May 1982. NEON reshaped my Saturday night as I sacrificed sleep and left
racing events to be home in time to tape this radio show. Each show had many tunes for me to hunt down in the record
shoppes. So tonight Saturday Night at 11:05PM I start the 40yrs ago NEON show from May 2 1981 just like it was the
first time I heard the show. JB Shayne the best dj/voice/original ever. I got more to say about NEON and more tunes
from NEON but I heard Echo and the Bunnymen "Over the wall" live on a AM radio on this Saturday night. There
was a live video of it in 1981 but nobody ever saw it until just a few years ago. I have all the Echo and the Bunnymen LP's
and love the darker energy/tone.

Thanks to the NEON radio show in early 1981 I first heard some "John Cale" not "JJ Cale" and not "John Cage".
John Cale been around a while before this LP "Honi Soit" came out and became part of 80's in a big way. The LP
has a bunch of great songs that sadly I dont think I've heard any radio show in the last 40yrs play any John Cale.
YouTube is loaded with his works but I like this LP not because I'm sentimental but because its some great music.

Listened to the May 31 1981 NEON tape on Saturday night just like 40 yrs ago. Just as entertaining
as 40yrs ago. First song is Bob Marley "Redemption Song" (Bob Marley recently died) followed by
Black Uhuru "Natural Reggae Beat". JB Shayne's voice with the sounds of a busy downtown Vancouver BC
street in the background like he might be talking outside. Rare is you want to hear the DJ talk between songs
as JB Shayne is well informed. No internet back in the early 80's and America was not playing the latest from
London/UK/Germany. Canada a perfect melting pot with direct London/Europe music connections plus a
bunch of Canadian bands entering the scene from Vancouver to Montreal and Halifax. None of this on any
radio I was listening to in 1980. One of the frequent guests on NEON was "Michael from Memory Lane Records"
in Vancouver BC. Michael brings some rare records to play. These were very hard to find if you heard of the bands
which I think you might not have. So FF 40yrs and both "super hard to find songs" are on YouTube. More from

From the May 31 1981 NEON show was my first introduction to Lene Lovich and the song "New Toy". Love at first sight.
Actually it wasnt until tonight I checked out most of the Lene Lovich videos on YouTube that she is pretty good looking.
An Aries woman 30yrs old with an attitude and an incredible vocal range. Her first big hit was "Lucky Number" and I dont
think many would think her live would look like this. Its hard to narrow down my favorite songs by Lene Lovich as I like
a lot more than four.

I think I was watching Lawrence Welk when "Neil" debuts "Ghost Riders in the Sky". Real catchy
twangy guitar playing number. Many have done/covered the song since and some surprises on the
list. Roy Clark does great job as you might expect. But who is this Jinetes en el Cielo guy. Whoa nellie.
